Job Summary

The Dog Breeding Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the caretaking and rearing of our puppies, care of our mama and papa dogs, cleaning and sanitizing the puppy pens, puppy room and yard, and other miscellaneous duties pertaining to the success of the breeding program. This role requires strong positive reinforcement interactions with all animals, especially while raising our puppies. Specific previous experience outlines below is preferred, but we are willing to train in all areas needed if necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily development of puppies using curriculum, temperament assessments, vet visits, administering of medications, and bathing/blow drying of puppies.

• Observes puppies to identify signs of failure to thrive, injury, illness, or disease and have a willingness to administer medications at times.

• Assist in a daily cleaning and sanitizing of the potty grates, puppy pens, puppy room, yard; do laundry and dishes related to the puppies and dogs; and safely use disinfectant and sanitizing cleaners inside and outside without cross contamination.

• Assists in the developmental feeding of puppies and nursing mama dogs.

• Assist with the care of the mama and papa dogs while at the house.

• Maintains records of information such as weight, physical condition, and medications given.

• Assist with the bathing, blow drying, nail trims, and grooming of the adult dogs and puppies at the house.

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute innovative ideas to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Experience with dogs using positive reinforcement and calm communication.

• Detail oriented and ability to follow instructions.

• Ability to get to the house (around Jomax and the 303) within 30 minutes if assisting a whelp.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Positive reinforcement experience with animals is required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform the physical duties of the job.

• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds at a time.

Working Conditions

• Part-time, on-site, contractor position, as required by business needs.

• Very flexible work hours Sunday-Saturday, as required by business needs (4-20 hours a week, depending on the week).

• May ask for occasional travel to vet related appointments or breeding related appointments (not required but preferred).

• May ask to occasionally stay at the house to take care of all the animals while I am away (not required but preferred).

Compensation and Benefits

• $17-22 per hour based off experience
